Hermitage La Sizeranne, Maison M. Chapoutier 2005

Tasting Notes

The 2005 Ermitage La Sizeranne is a beauty. It is closed and in need of a good 6-8 years of bottle age, so don't be impatient if you are going to buy this wine. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of graphite, creme de cassis, licorice, and crushed rocks, the wine is classic Ermitage. A very strong effort, it should last for 25-30 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (175), February 2008

Classic on the nose, with firm blackberry, flowers, smoked leather, and serious mineral and crushed rock aromas, the 2005 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne is medium bodied on the palate and tightly wound, showing a fresh, un-evolved profile, pure fruit, and solid structure. This should ideally be left alone for another 3-5 years, at which point it will drink well for a decade or longer.
