The 1990 Clos Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Ponsot is in stark contrast to the counterpart from Domaine Dujac. It is much more youthful in color since this would have been de-stemmed. It has a heavenly bouquet with dark berry fruit, mulberry, white flower, vanilla pod and later on, a lovely aroma of warm gingerbread. The palate is medium-bodied but clearly with greater roundness and depth than the Dujac, albeit without the same complexity or intellect. But you cannot resist the satin-like texture that is so lace-like towards the detailed finish that attests the quality of Laurent Ponsot’s winemaking. Tasted at Tour d’Argent restaurant in Paris. 2018 - 2035
