A delicious, evolved effort, the 2008 reveals notes of fruitcake, roasted herbs and underbrush. Good fruit, medium body, an easy-going texture and a soft finish suggest it will provide pleasure over the next 8-10 years.
Licorice and flowers, with black fruits on the nose. Full-bodied, with a very succulent and savory finish of meat, berry and aniseed. Subtle. 40 percent Cabernet Franc, 60 percent Merlot. Represents a huge improvement. Under the guidance now of winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt
Sweet and fragrant and transparent with lots of polish and ripe tannins almost submerged in crunchy black fruit flavours. Sufficient acidity. An appetising package. Dry finish. Good integrity. Appetising.
Yields were moderate for St.-Emilion, 34 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine came in with 14% natural alcohol. While very good, when evaluated in the company of some other remarkable St.-Emilions, it did not sing to the extent I thought it might. A dark ruby/purple color, slightly superficial red and black fruits, and plenty of minerality characterize this medium-bodied, cleanly-made 2008. It should drink well for 10-12 years. This is the first vintage where two talented wine consultants, Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt, worked with this property, situated on a south/southwest facing slope not far from Angelus.
