Latricières Chambertin, Domaine Faiveley 2002

Tasting Notes

This is even more elegant than the Mazis with its explosive, very dense red and black cherry fruit and exquisitely elegant, remarkably complex and powerful, mineral-infused flavors and a finish that seems to go on forever. This is not a huge wine but one that is impressively harmonious as everything is in perfect balance. A precise and driving finish adds an exclamation point to what is already a very classy wine.

Good deep red. Pure but subdued aromas of raspberry, minerals and licorice; less obviously ripe than the Mazis. Tightly wound and penetrating, with red fruit and licorice flavors firmed by brisk acidity. In a distinctly harder, more minerally style than the Mazis, more dominated by its structure and much less accessible today. This will need a good seven or eight years of cellaring.
