The 2005 Flaccianello della Pieve is impressive. It boasts striking inner perfume and sweetness to match its considerable sexiness. Today the wine is firing on all cylinders. The 2005 can be enjoyed today, but also has more than enough structure and acidity to develop nicely for a number of years. Floral notes add lift and brightness on the feminine finish. This sexy Flaccianello is a great effort in a vintage that was not without its challenges. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.
Medium to deep garnet colour. Dark cherry, moss, tobacco leaf and mocha notes on the nose. Lots of warm, rich fruit flavours on the palate supported by medium to firm, finely grained tannins and a refreshing backbone of medium to high acidity. Very long finish with an earthy, iron ore and loam character. Drink 2010 to 2024. Tasted January 2009
