With good argument, Artadi could well be considered the most exciting enterprise in Rioja. This wine is spectacular, but there are just over 100 cases. The wine is 100% Tempranillo grown at high altitudes, raised in French oak, and bottled without filtration. There is an extraordinary elegance and purity, as well as remarkable intensity and symmetry.
The 1995 El Pison is beginning to reveal a bit of age in its appearance. Earth, minerals, tobacco, smoke, balsamic, and black cherry lead to a succulent, concentrated, persistent wine with great depth and concentration. Long and seamless in the finish, it has at least 20 more years of prime drinking ahead.
