Tasting Notes

Another sleeper of the vintage from Moulin St.-Georges, the elegant 2008 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, aromas of crushed rocks, graphite, blueberries and raspberries, excellent concentration and a long finish. Consume it over the next decade or more.

From Alain Vauthier's estate, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, this is showing very good fruit intensity on the nose, the oak very unresolved at the moment, nice purity though with blackberries, a touch of iodine and blueberry compote. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, supple and quite fleshy, lovely focus on the caressing finish. Nice tension with wild strawberry and raspberry liqueur. Excellent. Tasted April 2009

Shows mineral and blackberry aromas, with loads of flowers. Full and almost jammy, with blackberry and mineral character and pretty, silky tannins.

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. From the Alain Vauthier collection.Dark purple. Picked very late according to the nose. A bit brutal. Lots of acidity. Needs lots and lots of time. Lots of guts but no charm for the moment.

Another top-notch effort from proprietor Alain Vauthier, the 2008 Moulin St.-Georges is made in a pure, fresh style, but appears to just be coming off malolactic fermentation. Its deep purple color is accompanied by sweet notes of incense, crushed rocks, acacia flowers, blueberries, and raspberries. This medium-bodied, lively, vibrant St.-Emilion should drink well for 10-12 years
