Tasting Notes

This is an amazing performance for Fombrauge in such a challenging vintage. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet, concentrated fruit as well as an espresso roast-scented bouquet displaying notions of chocolate, black cherry liqueur, and smoke. Drink this medium to full-bodied, luscious 2002 over the next 10-12 years. A blend of 71% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is unquestionably a sleeper of the vintage.

Tasted blind at Farr's 2002 Bordeaux tasting. This bottle is displaying signs of oxidation on the nose...smells more like a Maury! The palate is sweet and pruney, a modicum of balance with a roasted quality on the meaty, bretty finish. Although it does not taste like a Saint Emilion, it does had good definition and weight. Tasted October 2009.

This estate has soared in quality under the administration of Bernard Magrez, who has assembled a top-notch team to make the wine at all his estates. A blend of 71% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a gorgeous sleeper of the vintage. A dense purple color is followed by an exotic chocolate, creme de cassis, and cherry-scented bouquet. Medium to full-bodied with an opulence rarely found in this vintage, it is pure, deep, plump, and oh, so delicious. It should drink well young, and last for 10-12 years. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013
