Tasting Notes

Tasted single blind against its peers. The Bastor-Lamontagne surpasses my expectations from barrel. It has an attractive bouquet with scents of honeycomb, white peach and shaved almond shrouded in vanillary new oak. The palate is well-balanced with good acidity, although it sags a little in the middle and does not build on the promise of the nose. It has a crisp citrus edge on the light, elegant finish, but it would need more botrytis to merit a higher appraisal.

The Bastor-Lamontagne has a light silvery/gold colour. The nose is light and fragrant with apple-blossom, pear, honeycomb and a touch of lemon curd. Good definition although lacking a little intensity. The palate is medium-bodied, viscous on the entry, good acidity and tension with lemon curd, honey and a touch of dried pineapple towards the lemongrass tinged finish. Fine, but not as long-term as others. Drink now-2020.
