Our Best Selling Wine Ever – The Ultimate House Wine

Since we first tasted Château Thénac’s flagship red – Fleur de Thénac – we have sold over 90,000 bottles across just two vintages of this exceptionally good value wine. The 2009 was an instant hit and wowed the critics too, with Giles Coren of The Times calling it London’s best value house red.

When the 2009 came to an end we were excited to move on to the more serious and complex 2012 vintage which has also proven to be a big hit, with many of you buying it again and again – the ultimate acid test of a wine’s quality!

The 2012 vintage saw an increased level of consultation of Denis Durantou, the man with the Midas touch from Château L’Eglise-Clinet. The signature fruit concentration and freshness that made the 2009 such a winner were honed by Denis and the Château’s winemaker, Stèphane Guillot and, along with a more rigorous selection process, production was significantly lowered. The good news is that, despite this increased cost at the vineyard, we’ve been able to keep our price at an astonishing £75 per 12 bottles in bond (£65 for 2+ cases and a staggering £60 for 5+ cases).

We also have the Château’s white wine, 2013 Fleur de Thénac Blanc, to which the volume offer below also applies. Cases of red and white can be mixed to get the special prices too. This wine was reviewed by Ian d’Agata of Vinous.com, Antonio Galloni’s website, and he described it as a “…Classic dry, fruit-driven, sauvignon-dominated blend with plenty of extract and precision…Outstanding potential.”

There are few better value red or white wines to have at home for regular drinking than this pair - wines that punch well above their weight yet which are affordable enough for guilt-free pouring!

“A deep, vibrant ruby colour. The nose to this wine is ripe with black cherry and a hint of blackcurrant, layered with cocoa and a hint of wood smoke. The palate has a juicy black fruit core, with hints of plum and red cherry, and is textured by silky smooth, refined tannins. This is bright and fresh, with real precision and length. On the finish there are hints of vanilla, and a little smoky spice. Once again this is a knockout wine from Chateau Thénac with real purity and balance.”

“65% Merlot. Dark crimson. Round and spoilt, classy stuff. Tastes as though no expense had been spared – and I’m sure it wasn’t. Long and refreshing on the finish.”

“This Sauvignon-dominated blend is fresh, crisp and very elegant. Packed full of tropical fruit, sat on a mineral foundation. This is a very classic and honest wine made in the style of a white Bordeaux. The finish has mouth-watering acidity and surprising length. A great aperitif but even better with rich dishes or with fish.”

“(55% sauvignon blanc, 25% semillon and 20% muscadelle): Pale, gold-tinged color. Pure aromas of passion fruit, mandarin orange, herbs and minerals. Juicy, lively and intense, with bracing flavors of kiwi, pear and orange peel. Classic dry, fruit-driven, sauvignon-dominated blend with plenty of extract and precision. Finishes delicately herbal and bracing, with palate-cleansing lemony acidity and a repeating peach nuance. Outstanding potential.”
