Blind Tasting Overachievers from the Great 2016 Vintage

"The Best Bordeaux vintage I will probably ever taste: 2016"
Jancis Robinson MW

Following the Southwold Group tasting of 2016 Bordeaux at the end of January, the first reviews are starting to appear in the press.

Britain’s best-loved wine writer, Jancis Robinson MW, has written about this tasting in length in the Financial Times this weekend and she made it quite clear that she believes 2016 to be the greatest young red Bordeaux vintage of her long and distinguished career. She says that “I have just had the pleasure of wallowing in the best Bordeaux vintage I will probably ever taste: 2016. It’s more consistent than 2015, as tannic as 2010 but with riper tannins, much more precise than 2009, and just more everything than most vintages.”

Jancis states that there is quality across the board in this outstanding year and adds that “perhaps the most thrilling aspect of 2016 for this value-conscious northerner is that, as was clear even at the en primeur stage, the vintage is so consistent that there are many good wines in the lower ranks.” She doesn’t believe that consumers necessarily need to spend big bucks to purchase top quality 2016 Bordeaux and her scores prove this.

We have selected a few of her favourite modestly priced wines of the vintage for our customers which are shown below.
