Our Best Selling Wine Ever – The Ultimate House Wine

Since we first tasted Château Thénac’s flagship red – Fleur de Thénac – we have sold over 100,000 bottles across just two vintages of this exceptionally good value wine. The 2009 was an instant hit and wowed the critics too, with Giles Coren of The Times calling it London’s best value house red. Then came the 2012 which was more serious and complex but no less enticing.

Now we have the 2014 vintage -  a wine that is once again very different from its predecessors. A blend of 60% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Malbec, three years in bottle have softened the initially firm tannins and allowed the plummy fruit core to take centre stage. Derek Smedley MW says that there is "...lots of interest. There are layers of fruit on the palate..." and "...lots of excitement."

The good news is that, despite a more rigorous selection process which has reduced production significantly and improved quality, we’ve been able to keep our price at an astonishing £75 per 12 bottles in bond (£65 for 2+ cases and a staggering £60 for 5+ cases).

We also have a handful of cases of the Château’s white wine, 2014 Fleur de Thénac Blanc. This wine is predominately Sauvignon Blanc but has some Sémillon and Muscadelle in the blend to round it out. The volume offer also applies to the white and cases of both colours can be mixed to get the special prices too.

There are few better value red wines to have at home for regular drinking than Fleur de Thénac - a wine that punches well above its weight yet is affordable enough for guilt-free pouring!

“The nose has a fragrant floral charm a mix of black and red fruits lots of interest. There are layers of fruit on the palate peppery and spicy with a mix of bramble and blackcurrant sweetness and freshness. The hedgerow mix gives lots of excitement the sweetness fleshing out the back palate. Drink 2017-2025."

“Made from a blend of 60% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Malbec, the 2014 has been aged for 12 months in 50% oak barrels. With a deep ruby colour in the glass, the nose here has a fresh graphite and cedar note that pairs with black cherries, plums and notes of violet. Light coffee and vanillla notes in the background add a light level of support but are fully integrated into the bouquet. The palate is full of energy with plums, cherries and bramble fruits supported by crunchy, ripe tannins that frame a fresh core of fruit. This clean and vibrant core is built on with notes of coffee, nutmeg and cinnamon, both sweet and savoury through to the long and juicy finish."

16+ points, Farr Vintners
