Siran 2019

RegionBordeaux
SubregionMargaux

TypeStill

This 25 hectare property in Margaux is owned by the Miailhe family who used to own Pichon Lalande and a part of Chateau Palmer. The vines average 30 years of age with some going back to the 1920s. The quality has improved enormously recently and the 2015 was very highly praised (quite rightly) by the critics. The consultant is Hubert de Bouard of Angelus.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Siran has a drop dead gorgeous bouquet with pure blackberry and boysenberry fruit. Touches of crushed violet identify it as a Margaux. The oak is neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is very well balanced with succulent tannins, fleshy and sweet yet with depth and grip. Veins of blue fruit appears towards the spicy finish. This Siran boasts one of the longest finishes that I have ever encountered from this estate. Seriously good. 2024 - 2060

Score: 93/95Neal Martin, vinous.com, June 2020

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Siran slips easily out of the glass with fragrant notes of violets, blackberry pie, fruitcake, blackcurrant pastilles and dried lavender with hints of kirsch and chocolate mint. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with perfumed black fruit layers, knitted with a solid foundation of firm, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. Punching well above its weight, this is a very impressive showing for Siran! 2024 - 2050

Score: 93/95Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (July Week ), July 2020

A dense, beautifully integrated red with blackberry, blueberry and chocolate character. It’s full-bodied with ripe tannins and a fresh, focused finish. Shows lots of blue fruit and flowers at the end. Siran does it again, after a gorgeous 2018.

Score: 94/95James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, May 2020

The 2019 Siran is a dense, potent wine. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange infuse the 2019 with notable textural richness. This is an especially unctuous style, and yet Siran offers terrific persistence and plenty of character.
