Tasting Notes

The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py has an absolutely delightful bouquet. Much more charming than the Corcelette, it shows exquisite delineation with perfumed, mineral-laced red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, very focused with a touch of Indian spice toward the detailed finish. This has a long life ahead. It’s so refined and elegant. 2026 - 2040

2022 was a standout year for the Côte du Py, making wines of great depth that will stand a great test of time. On the nose, the 2022 Morgon Côte du Py unfurls with aromas of tangy blackberries, plums, blood orange, oak leaf and slate. Medium to full-bodied, this wine exudes an energetic presence, characterized by a well-defined structure upheld by tangy acids and velvety tannins made firm by concentration. Deeply nuanced, it gradually unfolds on the palate with layers of umami richness intertwined with hints of iron-like salinity melded seamlessly with persistent tangy black fruit. This is a standout wine that demands attention.

The 2022 Cote du Py from Burgaud is chock full of potential but needs a decant at this early stage. Mid purple in colour, the nose is flinty and has pulpy purple fruit, together with ripe strawberry and red cherry tones. The palate is initially tight with a very slight spritz from a litte protective CO2, but this dissipates with a decant, opening up beautifully to reveal layers of supple red, blue and black fruits. The tannins are persistent but fine and ripe, balancing the wine's layered and delicious fruit. A wine that justifies its cru status with a real sense of place, either decant for an hour or give it a year to 18 months in bottle before approaching.
