Deep ruby in the glass. This has the classic Tertre Roteboeuf perfume - violets, cloves and cherries - reminiscent of great red Burgundy, but with hints of deeper cassis and smoky undertones adding greater power and weight. The palate is pure in bramble fruit flavour, ripe and soft in a way that elevates it above the 2011 vintage. Through the mid palate there is great flesh and complexity - light barbecue smoke, cherry blossom, violets and dried herb. The tannins are refined and supple, meaning that this is already perfect for drinking now. The silky texture and great power with lifted floral freshness also gives the wine great ageing potential. Certainly capable of 10-15 years of further bottle age without any struggle. Supple, spicy and juicy on a long finish. All in all a superb, classic Tertre Roteboeuf.
The engaging François Mitjavile has excelled himself, making a silky, alluring wine of great distinction. Deeply coloured, complex and fine, this Merlot-based red shows polish, structure and finesse, with notes of sweet black fruits, liquorice and subtle vanilla oak, dense tannins and a long, fine finish with plenty of grip and concentration. The famous amphitheatre of vines has delivered in 2011. 15+ years.
Less exotic than recent vintages but stylistically true to form. Expressive red fruit nose. Ripe, round and warm but with energy to the fruit. Tannins are smooth and comforting. Drink 2017-2028.
Stunning, expressive ripeness - has a quality of fruit that just can't be faked. Long, elegant, fragrant nose. Sensitive oak character - opulent and luxurious but never excessive. Very firm tannin - deserve loads of time. Handles the high alcohol ably.
Picked on 22nd September, the Tertre-Rôteboeuf has a very pure, lifted bouquet with great precision and minerality. It is not powerful, but it has great refinement and finesse. The palate is introverted, remaining its shell, but it has crisp, almost chalky tannins and very pure, pixelated dark berry fruit with hints of spice on the linear finish. It is not expressive at the moment, but it has great potential. Tasted April 2012.
