Opening in the glass with notes of cherries, minty raspberries, peonies and spices, the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Domaine Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy, its layered core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins and bright acids. This is less tightly wound than it appeared to be in barrel and will offer more early accessibility than I perceived.
Moderate wood surrounds the ripe blend of both red and black raspberry, exotic tea and pretty violet scents. The caressing, round and delicious medium weight flavors that possess good but not special density before firming up noticeably on the austere and much more mineral-driven finale. Note: from vines on the Monthélie side Drink: 2032+
Vibrant ruby in colour. Bursting with fresh flowers and sweet, vibrant red fruit on the nose. The palate has a wonderful, weightless intensity and fleet-footed nature. Silky, succulent and yet so vibrant throughout, this is incredibly moresh and fresh. A joyous, approachable wine that doubtless has the energy and intensity to age well for over a decade. Delicious.
The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Domaine Louis Jadot) reveals aromas of rich berries, orange rind, peonies and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, with a lively core of fruit, ripe but firm tannins and a nicely defined finish, it will demand some bottle age.
