The now mothballed Port Ellen distillery took its name from the Islay port less than a mile away. Originally established as a malt mill in 1825, the property became a distillery in 1833 but it closed down in 1983 (having seen many different owners and changes of fortune inbetween). Today, as a result of it having closed, Port Ellen bottles are highly sought after.
Refill Sherry Butt - Natural Cask Strength (49.6%). No colouring or chill-filtration. Distilled December 1979, bottled January 2020. 299 bottles produced.
Only 299 bottles of this 40-year-old were produced, having been distilled in 1979 at the now-closed Port Ellen distillery. Bottled in 2020, this fabulous whisky was matured in a refill sherry butt.
