Entirely from Pommard Selection planted on the west side of their property, characterized by relative stress and small berries, the Shea Cellars 2010 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard Block 23 smells of fresh cherry and blackberry tinged with peat, brown spices, and a hint of caramelized oak resin. Rich and expansive yet persistently juicy, it opens up to display alluring inner-mouth bitter-sweet floral perfume that extends to satisfyingly complicate a lingering finish. The tannins here are evident but very fine-grained. I would anticipate at least ten or a dozen years of satisfaction.
