Grands Echézeaux, Domaine Georges Noellat 1962

Tasting Notes

A reasonably fresh nose given the age of the wine with plenty of sous bois yet there is also enough residual fruit, spice and earth nuances present that the overall aromatic impression is relatively youthful, which of course suggests that the storage has been impeccable. There is equally good vibrancy to the detailed, rich and very round medium-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate body and fine length on the balanced finish. This is a lovely wine though if I were guessing, I would hazard a guess that it has been reconditioned with a younger wine. To be clear, I'm not suggesting in any way that something illegal or unethical occurred, simply that this drinks differently, which is to say slightly riper and younger, than the typical '62 today even when good storage is taken into account. I have tasted this wine only once.
