Mid ruby in colour. Complex and enticing on the nose with sappy red cherry and dark plum alongside an earthy, smoky background note. The palate is defined by ripe but chalky tannins, bringing structure and restraint. The fruit is fleshy and ripe, but tamed by this tannin, adding real elegance and depth. Spices build through the mid-palate, complementing the intense, peppery fruit. Long, fine and vibrant on the finish - a very good showing this year.
A much spicier and more elegant nose is comprised by notes of plum, sandalwood and dark raspberry. The medium weight plus flavors possess a caressing yet powerful mouthfeel where the intensity really builds on the palate coating, muscular and firm finale. As one would reasonably expect, this is built to reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring. One to check out if you're a fan of Boudots.
Aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, plums and spices introduce the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that's lively and gourmand, with powdery tannins and an enveloping core of fruit. This is another fine success.
