The 1976 Rivesaltes Riveyrac Rancion "Cuvée Fernand Baixas" has an airier bouquet that does not quite possess the depth of older vintages: burnt toffee, ginger, a touch spirituous as it opens in the glass. The palate is well balanced. I like the citrus thread here, yuzu and ginger mixed with honeyed tones and toffee, gently opening out on the well-defined finish. It starts modestly but ends very elegantly, encouraging another sip.
40% grenache noir, 30% grenache blanc, 10 % grenache gris, 20 % Maccabeo
