Tasted from the 375-milliliter bottle, the 2016 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (Long Gold Capsule) is the botrytis selection of the vintage that didn't bring very much noble rot. Clear and fresh in its mineral expression, with citrus flavors, notes of crushed stones and also a concentrated raisin aroma on the nose, this is a generously round, smooth, very fine and balanced Auslese with a creamy, very elegant and harmonious texture. The wine (AP 20 17) is pretty sweet compared to the other Auslesen of the vintage, but hey, it wears a long gold capsule. Auctioned for 474.81 euros for the 375-milliliter bottle. Drink 2020-2050.
This strict selection of botrytized fruit harvested at a full 120° Oechsle delivers a gorgeous nose of canned yellow peach, mirabelle, apricot, mango and grilled pineapple. The wine proves quite appealing on the palate and leaves a beautifully long and filigreed feel in the smooth and delicately tickly finish. Reduced flavors of sweet almond, salted caramel and honey dominate the after-taste at this early stage. This backward wine is far from being and will need the better part of two decades to fully integrate. 2036-2066
