Côte Rôtie Les Terrasses, Vignoble Jean-Luc Jamet 2019

Tasting Notes

The star of the show is the 2019 Côte Rôtie Terrasses, which can thought of as a hypothetical mix of the 2017 and 2018, with perhaps a nod to the 2017. Both red and black fruits, peppery herbs, dried flowers, graphite, and a beautiful sense of minerality define the bulk of the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with fine, building tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. From a vintage that produced ripe, tannic wines, this stays balanced and pure and is loaded with potential.

Vibrant yet deep purple colour. Wonderful, pure nose with a deep sense of place. Black pepper, garrigue, game and blueberry fruit intermingle in a very enticing aroma. There is a hint of flinty reduction that warrants time in bottle to settle. The palate shows all the character of the nose, with addded tones of bramble fruits and game, violets, green peppercorn and fresh accents of red fruit. Silky yet persistent tannins add pithy tension. Expansive to the finish, this is the best wine Jean-Luc has produced to date.
