The Montée de Tonnerre is superb this year, bursting from the glass with a complex bouquet of apple blossom, tangerine, confit citrus, peach and an intriguing top note of mint. On the palate the wine is deep, intensely concentrated, stony and complete, with first class cut and grip through the long and flavourful finish.
Here the petrol character displayed by several of the preceding wines is quite prominent on the acacia blossom, citrus rind and white-fleshed fruit scents. I very much like the mouth feel of the sleekly muscular, intense and sappy medium weight flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm acid spine that shapes the well-balanced and impressively long finish. By the normal standards of this wine, the 2016 MdT is much more robust than usual though still impressive.
