Another notable success is the 2022 Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche, a medium-bodied, pure and satiny wine redolent of pear, confit citrus, freshly baked bread and white flowers. Bright and elegantly textural, it will offer charming drinking on release.
This wine is made from a parcel of vines situated at the top of the landmark Roche de Vergisson and is surrounded by the vineyards of Pouilly Fuisse. The vines face East. Fermentation in barrel - of which 25% new oak and then oak ageing for 8 months. A much smaller production than normal in 2022. The nose here is tightly wound, subtle wood spice mingling with densely-packed stone fruits and a hint of cream. There is a honeyed edge to the fruit on the palate, which is glossy with a knockout texture, silky yet energised by waves of acidity. The spice packs a punch but is matched by silky, ripe fruit. Very long and fleshing out on the finish.
