Château Angludet has belonged to the Sichel family since 1961 and is now run by Benjamin Sichel. The 30 hectares of vines are planted in one contiguous block, farmed biodynamically for over 20 years. The vineyard is planted with 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 13% Petit Verdot, producing around 100,000 bottles a year.
Lots of blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors with licorice and tar. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a long, creamy finish. Best of the trilogy.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 D'Angludet comes skipping out of the glass with cheery, upfront scents of baked blueberries, stewed plums and redcurrant jelly, plus wafts of chocolate box and potpourri. The medium-bodied palate is juicy and refreshing, offering soft tannins and a satisfyingly fruity finish. 2023 - 2034
Full bottle 1,358 g. Cask sample.
Deepest crimson with smudgy rim. Lively, fresh aroma with the fruit not the oak to the fore. (No info provided on the oak used, nor on the varietal make-up.) Cassis, blackberry and some red-plum sweetness, which comes through on the palate. Not particularly intense but harmonious, with finely layered dry tannins. Definitely one of the more approachable and digestible Margaux 2020s I have tasted. Hint of chocolate on the finish. (JH) 13.5%
Drink 2026 – 2037
Château Angludet believe they have made a wine similar in quality and style to their 1989, the last vintage to be harvested as early as the 2020. The blend is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. Bright ruby in colour. Floral and fresh on the nose - quite delicate at this stage. The palate is bright and crunchy. Cool hedgerow fruits and flowers dominate the fruit core, which is elegant if lighter than most this year. Sappy red fruit on the finish.
(46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot; 13.5% ABV; 30% in “amphorae”)
Lovely blackberry-ripe nose, florally fragrant and Petit Verdot-spicy; full and fresh and finely tannic, a very elegant balance; gently packed with juicily sweet fruit, a delicious impression of fruit mass and “matter,” long, close-grained, and mineral; a great sense of completeness and with fine fruit persistence. After much experimentation, Ben Sichel is now putting 30% of the wine into Italian clay “amphorae” for aging: gentle oxidation without the aromas or textures of wood—and it seems to have made for a particular richness and purity of fruit in the 2020. A really beautiful Angludet, right up with its 2019, in a slightly more classical style.
