Formerly known as Haut Bages Averous but rebranded in 2008, the second wine of Chateau Lynch Bages has a modern label that brings it up to date with the exciting rennovations taking place here. Maturation is in barrels that have seen one vintage of Lynch Bages.
The 2019 Echo De Lynch-Bages is the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages and it's beautifully done, with a more floral, perfumed, pretty style compared to the Grand Vin, yet it still brings plenty of structure. Red and black currants, sappy flowers, tobacco leaf, and gravelly earth all define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied, has integrated acidity, gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully balanced and already accessible, yet will nevertheless benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age.
46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 53% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Vibrant ruby colour. Perfumed, plummy fruit jumps from the glass with hints of vanilla and darker cassis. The palate is chock full of crunchy dark fruit, bringing tones of the chateau in a much more approachable frame. Powdery tannins offer an initially chalky entry but they integrate quickly. Succulent and finishing full of fleshy, plummy fruit. Lingering with spice and cedar on the finish.
The 2019 Echo de Lynch-Bages is composed of 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with bold notions of warm cassis, baked blueberries, and fragrant soil, followed by hints of cedar and clove oil. The medium-bodied palate is taut with muscular black fruits, framed by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and fragrant.
Smooth tannins although plenty of them with chewy character and walls to climb. What a great 2nd wine, with pulses of minerality that keep the momentum from beginning to end, impressive depth through the mid palate, juicy on the finish, well judged mix of blackcurrant fruit, smoked spice and fresh acidites.
Tasted blind. Really fresh and lively with a middle, beginning and end, and some tannins. Like a minor grand vin, rather than a collection of offcuts. 14%
Drink 2026– 2040
The 2019 is a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 53% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The abv is 14%. Vibrant ruby purple in the glass with pure and lifted aromas of fresh blackcurrant and sweet plums. The palate is crunchy with tannins but has a lithe approachability as they melt quickly into the fruit at the core. Notes of ripe plum and cherries linger with hints of sweet spice on a fresh, slightly savoury finish.
The 2019 Echo de Lynch-Bages, matured in one-year-old barrels for 12 months, has a crisp blackberry, briar and cedar bouquet with touches of mint, quite vibrant and lively. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent tannins and mulberry and black plum flavors intermingling with black truffle and white pepper. Maybe just a little abrupt on the finish at the moment, but that will fill out in time. Drink 2024-2035.
