Clos Windsbuhl

The Clos Windsbuhl vineyard is Zind-Humbrecht's flagship monopole and, whilst not officially being a Grand Cru site, is widely regarded as being a qualitative equivalent. It is home to some of the Domaine's most elegant, expressive and complex wines, from the remarkable Gewurztraminers, to the powerful yet super-stylish Pinot Gris and Rieslings. These wines are absolutely superb and can age beautifully.

Zind's Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl tend to have the highest residual sugar of all the Domaine's wines. However, the terroir of the vineyard means that whilst these wines are technically sweet, they are extremely well balanced and lifted, meaning they never appear cloying. These are wines with fabulous ageing potential and are extremely complex and nuanced.

The Domaine's Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris has to be amongst the greatest expression of this grape grown in the region and beyond. These are elegant and sensual wines, despite having a generosity on the mid-palate. That's the beauty of these wines - they are both rich and lean at the same time, with enormous ageing potential. The selection on offer have all been classified as Indice 1 by the Domaine, meaning that the wine is technically dry or tastes dry.

Arguably the most famous iteration of this vineyard is the Riesling grape, despite being the variety with the lowest planting. Old vines, the unique terroir and the nobility of the grape means that this bone-dry expression has a citrus-based profile with hints of exotic fruits and an incredible mouthfeel. Remarkable wine.
