Côte Rôtie La Mordorée, Maison M. Chapoutier 2021

Tasting Notes

A stunning red with aromas of dark cherries, wild berries, barbecued meat and baking spices. It’s only medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. So much intensity but always in control. Very textural and well-driven, with a velvety core and the very fine tannins coating the palate throughout. It’s harmonious and generous, with a long, vibrant, spicy finish. Limited production. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Côte Rôtie La Mordorée, which comes from the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune lieu-dits, is straight-up brilliant and is a resounding success in the vintage. Spring flowers, hints of game, leather, black raspberries, and toasted spices all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, rounded texture, soft tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of a softer expression of the 2013.
